SHIMLA: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh delivered a thought-provoking speech in Shimla, emphasizing the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) unwavering commitment to the constitutional values laid down by Ambedkar and upholding its democratic principles.

Speaking at an event organised by Himachal Pradesh State BJP and attended by prominent leaders including LoP and former chief minister Jairam Thakur, State BJP chief Dr Rajiv Bindal , MP Rajya Sabha Sikander Kumar and party workers, Dr. Jitendra Singh outlined the BJP's historical contributions to preserving constitutional integrity and rebutted allegations of constitutional misuse.

Dr. Jitendra Singh began by highlighting the historical neglect and exploitation of constitutional values by previous governments, under Congress leadership. He pointed to instances where the Constitution was amended for political expediency, such as during the Emergency in 1975, when the 42nd Amendment was used to consolidate power and stifle dissent. He remarked, "The Congress Party exploited constitutional provisions 88 times to dismiss state governments under Article 356, an article intended for rare and exceptional situations."

Contrasting this with the BJP's approach, Dr. Jitendra Singh detailed the party's initiatives to honor national icons and preserve their legacies.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ensured that leaders like Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, who were historically sidelined, receive the respect they deserve. The Statue of Unity, the world's tallest statue, stands as a testament to Sardar Patel's vision. Similarly, the Modi government has developed memorials at key locations associated with Dr. Ambedkar's life to inspire future generations," he said.

Dr. Jitendra Singh also touched upon the BJP's legislative achievements, including reforms aimed at empowering marginalized communities and fostering inclusivity. He cited the abolition of triple talaq as a landmark step toward gender justice and highlighted the modernization of India's criminal code as a means of ensuring equitable treatment for all citizens. "Unlike previous regimes, the BJP has never used constitutional amendments for political gains. Our focus remains on justice and nation-building," he added.

The minister addressed the historical challenges faced by leaders like Dr. Ambedkar, whose contributions to the Constitution were often undervalued during their time. Reflecting on Dr. Ambedkar's perseverance despite social and political adversity, Dr. Jitendra Singh stated, "Dr. Ambedkar's vision for an inclusive and robust Constitution remains unparalleled. While others sought to exploit his work, the BJP has worked tirelessly to preserve and celebrate his legacy."

Highlighting the party's commitment to transparency and accountability, Dr. Jitendra Singh reminded the audience of the sacrifices made by BJP leaders and workers over generations. "Our journey is not just political; it is a legacy of dedication and sacrifice. The BJP's rise is a result of the relentless efforts of its leaders who upheld the Constitution, often at great personal cost," he said.

Dr. Jitendra Singh further stressed the cultural and historical ties between regions like Himachal Pradesh and Jammu, drawing parallels in their shared values and contributions to the nation. He lauded the unity and dedication of party workers in these regions, urging them to continue working for the betterment of society and upholding democratic values.

The minister also addressed the false narratives propagated against the BJP, asserting that the party's actions have always been rooted in national interest. "Critics often accuse the BJP of undermining the Constitution, but the truth is that our government has restored respect for national icons and promoted reforms that reflect the spirit of democracy," he said.

Dr. Jitendra Singh concluded his address with a call to action, urging political leaders and citizens alike to safeguard India's democratic fabric. "The Constitution is not just a document; it is a legacy of our shared values and aspirations. It is our duty to ensure that it continues to guide us toward a united and progressive India," he said.

The event in Shimla was attended by senior leaders, party workers, and local dignitaries, serving as a platform to reiterate the BJP's ideological commitment and its vision for India's future. Dr. Jitendra Singh's speech resonated with attendees, offering a powerful reminder of the party's dedication to preserving India's constitutional and democratic ethos.
