World’s Highest Pangong ‘Frozen Lake’ Marathon conducted

LEH: In the second edition of the Pangong Frozen Lake Marathon ‘World's Highest Frozen Lake Marathon' was conducted successfully.

The marathon was organized by Adventure Sports Foundation of Ladakh with the support of Union Territory of Ladakh Administration and Indian Army's 14 Corps. There were 120 runners from seven different countries participated in two categories 21 Km and 10 Km Run.

Administrative Secretary of Youth Services & Sports, UT Ladakh Ravinder Kumar was the Chief Guest of the event accompanied by Konchok Stanzin, Councilor Chushul Constituency.

The main purpose behind the run was to spread awareness about rapid melting of Himalayan Glaciers and to promote Winter Tourism in places like Changthang.

The people from Pangong areas from Maan, Merak, Spangmik and Phobrang participated in the event in large numbers along with hosting the runners. They also performed various cultural performances on the occasion.

The statement said the run was conducted in the midst of heavy snowfall at an altitude of 14,273 ft and with the temperatures dropped to -15, which officially gives us the confidence to declare this as one of the toughest marathons in the world.
