MUMBAI: Nita M. Ambani, the Founder and Chairperson of Reliance Foundation, bagged the "Sports Leader of the Year - Female" award at the CII Scorecard 2023 event in New Delhi.

The ceremony, which took place this evening, also recognised Reliance Foundation with the "Best Corporate Promoting Sports in India" award.

Ambani, known for her roles in education, philanthropy, and sports, has an estimated net worth of $2.8 billion to $3 billion, wearing many hats from entrepreneur to arts patron. Born on November 1, 1963, in Mumbai, she holds a commerce degree from Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics and was a teacher before marrying Mukesh Ambani in 1985. The couple has three children.

Apart from being the first lady of Indian business, Nita Ambani broke ground as the first Indian woman on the International Olympic Committee and the first Indian on the board of trustees of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

Recognitions for her sports initiatives include the 'Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Award 2017' and the 'Best Corporate Supporter of Indian Sports' by the Times of India.

Recently, she received the Global Leadership Award from the US India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) 2023 for her contributions to philanthropy and corporate social responsibility.

Nita Ambani is the founder and chairperson of Reliance Foundation, launched in 2010 with the aim of building an inclusive India.

She also heads 'Her Circle,' a digital movement for women's empowerment, co-owns the IPL team Mumbai Indians, and founded Football Sports Development Limited, launching the Indian Super League.

Her impact on education is seen through the Dhirubhai Ambani International School, established in 2003, and the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre in Mumbai, inaugurated recently.
