District Road Safety Committee reviews implementation of Action Plan in Samba

DC asks for regular checking to curb traffic violations

SAMBA: The District Road Safety Committee today reviewed the implementation of road safety plan in District Samba here at a meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner, Abhishek Sharma.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned departments to take immediate and necessary steps to minimize road accidents. Detailed department-wise review of implementation of safety measures was conducted, and SP Traffic and ARTO were directed to raise awareness among drivers about road safety rules. They were also tasked with conducting regular checking to curb traffic violations and ensure the implementation of traffic rules.

To promote a comprehensive approach, the Chief Education Officer was directed to submit an Action Plan for organizing year-round activities on road safety in all Hr. Sec. Schools to educate students about traffic rules.

The CMO was asked to conduct free health checkup camps for commercial vehicle drivers, ensuring their physical and mental fitness for safe driving. The health department authorities were asked to ensure prompt availability of Ambulances in case of road accidents.

The Executive Engineer (R&B) was directed to make roads pothole-free, install crash barriers, and road signs at vulnerable points. TheR&B was asked to complete all assigned works under the district road safety action plan by November 30, 2023.

The Officer from the National Highway Authority was instructed to take corrective measures on the National Highway, including pothole removal, blacktopping of side roads, installing road signages and creating a by lane at Bus Stop, Vijaypur.

The SDM Ghagwal was directed to identify space at Nonath for idle parking of about 300 trucks on Mansar road due to the closure of the National Highway. This aims to prevent road accidents caused by traffic jamming on the Samba-Mansar road.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need for immediate steps and safety measures across all concerned departments to minimize road accidents and safeguard precious human lives in the district.

The meeting saw the participation of key officials, including Additional S.P Samba, SDM Ghagwal, Vijaypur, Executive Engineer PWD(R&B), representatives from Irrigation and Flood Control,, Dy.SP Traffic Samba, CEO Samba, CMO Samba, ARTO Samba, and a representative from NHAI.
