Amit Sharma conducts inspection of EOC, Data Centre site, pressing peddle for early operationalization in Ladakh UT

LEH: Amit Sharma, Secretary Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation & Reconstruction as well as Secretary Information Technology, Union Territory of Ladakh today conducted a site visit to inspect the progress in the working of Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) which was inaugurated by LG Ladakh UT last month only and also, check the progress in construction work of upcoming UT Data Centre which are going to play key role in taking UT of Ladakh towards future-driven technologies.

Secretary Amit Sharma took an extensive round of EOC alongwith Deputy Secretary IT Abdul Majid and Manager/Staff of the Centre wherein he expressed satisfaction over the quality of work done here but he mentioned that lot more needs to be done to make it fully functional such as integrating its services with Traffic department automation, Safe City Projects, setting-up of an Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) here for sensor-based disaster warning and mitigation alongwith information dissemination to the public much before natural calamities take place in future.

Amit also reiterated the vision of UTL LG Brig Dr B.D Mishra (Retd) and Advisor Dr Pawan Kotwal regarding giving best services to the public of Union Territory which can be best provisioned by utilising the existing infrastructure of EOL and creating all 365-day LG Grievance Cell here only wherein public can directly lodge their issues/complaints with a facility to auto-forward same to concerned departments for immediate redressal in a time-bound manner.

He further shared that this kind of mechanism can be replicated as a best practice of neighbouring UT J&K wherein it has been running successfully for quite sometime now.

Secretary Amit Sharma also conducted a site visit of UT Data Centre wherein he issued strict directions to CPWD, Executing Agency of the Project, to finish the construction work well within timelines on a war-footing basis by adopting double/triple shift system as there is limited working season in the UT and moreover, Ladakh is in dire need to have its own Data Centre to host multiple kinds of data which are at present, being hosted in other Data Centres on request basis.

Before concluding the trip, he directed his team to work with total zeal and vigour and conduct weekly assessment of the progress in both these ongoing projects, especially ongoing construction work of UT Data Centre so that these twin important infrastructures, located nearby each other, can be utilised to their optimal capacity for the welfare of UT Ladakh citizens at the earliest.
