AMRITSAR: Papalpreet Singh, a close aide of fugitive Khalistani separatist leader Amritpal Singh, was flown to Assam's Dibrugarh on Tuesday. He was brought to Amritsar airport by police this morning.
Papalpreet Singh, who is also considered to be the Waris Punjab De chief's mentor, was arrested from Hoshiarpur on Monday in a joint operation conducted by the Punjab Police and its counter-intelligence unit. He has been detained under the stringent National Security Act (NSA) and six other cases have also been registered against him, police said.
So far, eight close aides of Amritpal Singh, including his uncle, have been shifted to the Dibrugarh Central Jail and all of them have been booked under the NSA.
Papalpreet and Amritpal Singh have been on the run since March 18 when Punjab Police had launched a massive crackdown against Waris Punjab Da chief and his aides.
Amritpal gave police a slip after his convoy was intercepted in Jalandhar district on March 18. The Khalistani leader has so far evaded the police arrest, changing multiple vehicles and hideouts and changing appearances.
