KATHUA: A cleanliness drive was today conducted in the surrounding area of Government Degree College Ramkote.

As many as 18 NSS volunteers along with Programme Officer of the Unit Prof. Anu Sharma participated in the drive.

The drive commenced from near the college gate, covering the lanes that connect the college to the main road. NSS volunteers removed debris, plastic waste and wrappers of edible products from the pond situated near Badri Narayan Temple promoting awareness about cleanliness of water bodies.

The walkways across the pond in the adopted village Ramkote were also cleaned and made litter/single use plastic free. A message of cleanliness and maintaining hygiene near water bodies was spread among the local community for continuous upkeep of public areas ensuring green, clean and plastic free surroundings, a small contribution towards Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

The College Principal Rakesh Kumar Koul lauded the NSS volunteers for fostering a sense of shared responsibility for a cleaner environment. Taking part in such activities showcases the power of collective action and engages college youth to inspire others to join a nationwide movement towards a cleaner and greener India, he added.
