SAMBA: In a deeply moving curtain raiser event, SPPND Government Degree College, Samba unveiled the spirit of its upcoming memorial initiative - "Veeron Ki Vaatika - Wall of Fame" - A Living Tribute to the Bravehearts of Samba Tehsil under the national campaign "Meri Maati Mera Desh", supported by the Department of Higher Education, J&K and funded through the CAPEX budget.

The Wall of Fame commemorates 18 martyrs from Samba Tehsil who made the supreme sacrifice in service to the nation - from the earliest conflicts of 1947 to Kargil and beyond.

The initiative began with the planting of 18 trees by the martyrs' families in their honour and has now evolved into a permanent tribute symbolising patriotism, sacrifice, and national pride.

Shantmanu, Financial Commissioner, Higher Education, J&K in his message, expressing deep admiration for the vision behind the initiative stated that the Wall of Fame is not just about remembering the past - it is about nurturing a future rooted in patriotism. Such efforts ensure that our youth grow up with a deep sense of rashtra prem, responsibility and naitikta towards the nation.

Dr. Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, Director Colleges, lauded the college's initiative exhorting that this upcoming Wall of fame- Veeron Ki Vaatika is a model of how academic spaces can become sacred spaces of remembrance.

Through this effort, SPPND GDC Samba has honoured not just the martyrs, but the very soul of Samba - the land of warriors.

Dr. Twinkle Suri, Principal, SPPND GDC Samba, shared an emotional byte stating an institution is not remembered by what it builds, but by what it inspires. When our students walk past this Wall of Fame, they walk past a living legacy. We hope to awaken in them a sense of kartavya, samarpan, and deshbhakti - to live not just for themselves, but for the nation.

The local Sarpanch, Sunil Chowdary from Balore expressed that this wall, built in memory of the brave soldiers of Samba, is a matter of pride for every home in every village and it should remind every student that true education lies not just in books, but in living with courage, character, and commitment to the nation.

Faculty representatives of the college also sharing their thoughts stated that they felt honoured to be a part of an institution that doesn't just teach, but also pays homage to the spirit of India. This initiative will shape generations of students with both wisdom and character.

The Wall of Fame, featuring engraved names and citations of the 18 martyrs, is nearing completion and will be formally inaugurated soon. The college has turned this initiative into a space of collective memory, national pride, and educational inspiration.
