GDC Marh celebrates Dogri Manyata Diwas

JAMMU: Government Degree College Marh celebrated 21 years of Dogri Manyata Diwas today, here under the leadership of the college Principal, Dr. Rakesh Kumar Koul.

The event was meticulously organized by Dr. Sheetal Sharma HOD, Department of Dogri.

Principal Dr. Rakesh Kumar Koul was the chief guest. He emphasized the importance of preserving and passing on Dogra culture to future generations. He further captivated the audience by delivering his speech in Dogri, a highlight of the program that resonated with all present.

As part of the celebrations, students dressed in traditional attires and displayed a variety of traditional Dogra cuisines and food items prepared by them through stalls and served in local eco-friendly pattals and Dunas.

As many as 7 stalls managed by 14 students displayed 17 local delicacies of Quare, Suchhiyaan, Khamirah, Meyri, Chilla, Malpua, Chana-di-dal, Ambal, Rice, Kimb, Kachaloo, Sund, Madra, Aasra, Alsi-de-Laddu, Gajar-da-Halwa which were well-received and tasted by faculty and staff alike.

The stall competition was judged by a panel of faculty members (Prof. Asha Kumari, HOD Geography, Prof. Sachin Kumar Bhagat, HOD Pol. Science and Dr. Priya Sharma, HOD Economics).

The winners (1st position- Laxmi Sharma of Semester I, 2nd position- Kashish Sharma of Semester V and 3rd position- Sangeeta and Sweety Kaith of Semester-III) were recognized for their outstanding contribution by presenting certificates of appreciation. The celebration also witnessed folk dance by students and faculty.

In her closing remarks, Dr. Sheetal Sharma extended heartfelt gratitude to the entire faculty and Principal for their unwavering support. She pledged to continue her efforts in promoting the Dogri language and Dogra culture, with a commitment to elevating them to new heights in the years to come.

The event not only showcased the rich cultural heritage of Jammu but also reinforced the importance of preserving and celebrating regional traditions for future generations.
