POONCH: The Indian Army's Poonch Brigade on Wednesday unfurled a 72-feet-high national flag at Ajote War Memorial in Poonch to honour the fallen heroes of the district.

Indian Army in collaboration with Flag Foundation of India, today installed a 70-feet-high national flag at the Ajote War Memorial to honour the fallen heroes of Poonch, a Jammu-based defence spokesperson said.

A large number of veterans and school children from proximal areas witnessed the event and applauded the unfurling ceremony.

After unfurling the flag, the national anthem was performed.

Patriotic songs were also sung by the school children.

A sense of happiness and pride were seen among the local people.

Pradeep Khanna, a local resident said that the district is now not only religious tourist place but also has become a patriotic tourism place.

"In 1965 during India- Pakistan war, this was the place from where our soldiers faced the firing by the Pakistani Army the whole night. That time, only a stone was installed and was named as war memorial. With the passage of time, some renovations were done by the army officials and now Poonch, that is a religious tourist place, has now become patriotic tourism place," he said.
