Director Agriculture visits Saffron Fields of Pampore

Says Department is vigorously working to ensure proper, complete irrigation facilities to the saffron farmers

SRINAGAR: The Director Agriculture Kashmir, Chowdhury Mohammad Iqbal today visited Saffron fields of Pampore to take stock of the present scenario and interventions by the department.

He impressed upon the field officers to work in close coordination with the saffron farmers and ensure that proper guidance is provided to them during the pre and post harvesting ( flower picking) operations.

The Director said that the department is vigorously working to ensure proper, complete irrigation facilities to the saffron farmers. He said 72 borewells have already been provided to the saffron farmers and efforts are on to ensure that remaining borewells are handed-over to the concerned saffron farmers so that the sufficient irrigation facilities are made possible.

He asked the concerned farmers to make sure that the bore wells and their pipes are properly used for the benefits of saffron crop. He also asked them to take care of pipes of the bore wells particularly because only then the purpose of these irrigation facilities could be served.

Joint Director Extension GM Dhobi and Chief Agriculture Officer Pulwama were also present on the occasion.
