Two J&K fencers selected for International Championship

JAMMU: Two fencers from Jammu and Kashmir, Vishal Thappar and Rishika Khajuria have been selected for the forthcoming International Championships during the selection trials held by Fencing Association of India (FAI) Siri Fort Indoor Sports Complex, Delhi.

They were selected for the forthcoming Senior Asian Fencing Championship, China and World Fencing Championship, Milan, Italy and prestigious Asian Games scheduled to be held in China.

Both the fencers were called for trials on their outstanding performances in senior nationals and national games in Delhi on June 5 last year.

Both the sabre fencers are basic fencers from J&K Sports Council fencing training at Centre M.A Stadium under J&K Sports Council Coaches Shottu Lal Sharma and Rachna Jamwal.

Delighted over the performance of fencers, Secretary Sports Council, Nuzat Gul expressed happiness on their selection in the Indian team. She said it is the first time that 2 fencers from Jammu and Kashmir got selected for such a prestigious International Competitions.
