Sets target of 500 Rooftop Installations by August- 2025

BARAMULLA: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, today chaired a review meeting to assess the implementation of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana in the district.

The scheme aims to promote the adoption of rooftop solar energy by providing financial assistance and incentives to residential households, contributing to the broader goals of clean energy and energy independence.

During the meeting, it was informed that 1,700 applications have been received through the official portal. To accelerate progress, DC set a district target of at least 500 rooftop solar installations by the end of August 2025.

DC expressed concern over reports that some bank branches are demanding unnecessary additional off line documents from applicants, leading to delays. He directed all branch managers to follow the official guidelines strictly and ensure a citizen-friendly, transparent, and efficient loan processing system under the scheme.

To enhance awareness among the public, DC instructed concerned departments, PRIs, and the District Information Centre to launch intensive awareness campaigns across panchayats and blocks. These campaigns will include door-to-door outreach, information sessions, and support for online applications, encouraging more households to take benefit of the scheme.

Banks were further directed to clear all pending loan cases within a fixed timeframe and ensure that online application and processing mechanisms are fully functional and accessible. Lead District Manager assured the chair that coordinated efforts are underway to resolve bottlenecks and speed up approvals.

In his concluding remarks, Minga Sherpa underlined that the PM Surya Ghar Yojana not only advances the national vision of sustainable development but also provides a practical opportunity for citizens to reduce electricity bills and become self-reliant in energy. He urged all departments, financial institutions, and stakeholders to work in a mission mode to ensure effective implementation of the scheme at the grassroots level.

The meeting was attended by Additional District Development Commissioner, Joint Director Planning, Assistant Commissioner Development, Superintending Engineer JKPDCL and other concerned officers beside all registered vendors.
