RAMBAN: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH44) was reopened on Monday afternoon for two-way traffic for Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) after restoration work was largely completed, while Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) will be allowed to move from the Valley towards Jammu, an official said.
The official said, "Traffic has been allowed from both sides on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44) for LMVs (passenger/private cars). However, HMVs will be allowed to move from the Valley towards Jammu after assessing the traffic situation and road conditions."
"One-way traffic is allowed at the sinking portion in Maroog, Ramban. Stranded traffic on both sides of the landslide area is being cleared one by one," he added.
The highway had been closed for traffic following heavy rainfall, which caused a portion of the road to sink in the Maroog area of Ramban district.
