JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested two drug peddlers-who also happen to be close relatives-in a major crackdown in the Bishnah area, exposing a disturbing nexus of narcotics and kinship.

This was revealed by SP Headquarters Jammu, Irshad Hussain Rather while addressing a press conference at Police Station Bishnah. Rather was accompanied by SDPO R S Pura Gurmeet Singh and SHO Bishnah Inspector Sushil Choudhary.

The SP disclosed that acting on precise intelligence inputs, the police team from Police Station Bishnah laid a naka at Sikandarpur Kothey, a known drug trafficking hotspot. What followed was a swift and strategic strike a car was intercepted, leading to the seizure of 283 grams of heroin (chitta), a whopping Rs 20.02 lakh in cash, and a Swift car (JK02BB-9853) all pointing towards a well-oiled narcotics operation.

"The accused have been identified as Sadiq Ali alias Jattu, son of Roshan Din from Handey Chal in Kathua district, and his father-in-law Saif Ali alias Safu, son of Noor Ali of Sikandarpur Kothey, Bishnah," the officer stated, adding, the arrests are expected to reveal vital leads about a much larger drug supply and distribution racket.

He said a case (FIR Number 69/2025) under multiple stringent sections of the NDPS Act (8, 21, 22, 25, 27-A, 29) has been registered at Police Station Bishnah.

The high-stakes operation was led by SDPO R S Pura Gurmeet Singh and SHO Bishnah Inspector Sushil Choudhary, assisted by PSIs Darshan Singh and Purshotam Kumar, under the command of SP Headquarters Jammu, Irshad Hussain Rather.

Rather said the investigation is now focusing on mapping the origin and destination of the recovered narcotics.

Teams are pursuing both backward and forward linkages to uncover the full extent of the drug network. A financial trail analysis has also been launched to trace the movement of illicit funds and crack down on any accomplices hiding in plain sight
