JAMMU: In a mesmerizing celebration of classical Indian dance and music, Bhavishya Academy, an institute of Classical Dance based in Jammu, etched its name into the cultural fabric of the region through its grand event, "Kala Darpan 2025."

The Academy founded and led by acclaimed Kathak exponent Parul Bhateja-a devoted disciple of Pt Jai Kishan Maharaj and Gauri Diwakar-curated this unforgettable evening in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL).

Themed "Swayambhu" and dedicated to Lord Shiva, the event was a soul-stirring homage to the divine, blending spiritual reverence with classical aesthetics. The evening was jointly hosted by Dr Javaid Rahi, Divisional Head of JKAACL and Bhateja, who also welcomed a distinguished gathering of cultural patrons and dignitaries.

Yudvir Sethi (MLA, Jammu East) and Priya Sethi, former minister of state, graced the evening as the chief guests, while Sheetal Nanda, Commissioner/Secretary, Forest, Ecology and Environment and Dr Ritu Singh (Founding Chairperson - Maharaja Hari Singh Social and Educational Foundation) were present as the guests of honour.

The ceremonial lighting of the lamp was led by Nasib Singh and Charu Bhateja, marking the auspicious beginning of the evening.

The event's centerpiece was a series of spellbinding Kathak performances, choreographed by Parul Bhateja herself. The dances were accompanied by live classical music rendered by a stellar lineup of musicians including Suraj Singh (A-grade Ghazal artist and Head of Vocal Department at the Institute of Music and Fine Arts), Rakesh Anand (All India Radio artist) and Amit Anand (A-grade approved artist, All India Radio).

Together, the fusion of intricate Kathak rhythms and live classical melodies enthralled a packed auditorium of art lovers and connoisseurs.

"Kala Darpan 2025" successfully showcased the vibrancy and relevance of classical art forms in contemporary times, leaving an indelible impact on Jammu's cultural landscape.
