JU organises Awareness Lecture on 'Constitutional Rights and Obligations of the Citizens of India'

JAMMU: An Awareness Lecture was organised for the students and scholars of Department of Sociology on ‘Constitutional Obligations: Values, Rights, Duties and Responsibilities of the Citizens' by The Law School, University of Jammu Dr. Palvi Mathavan from the Law School was the resource person of the day.

Diksha Nargotra faculty, Department of Sociology welcomed and introduced the speaker to the department.Dr.Palvi in her lecture focussed on the need to follow the ideal code of behaviour, which runs parallel to the eleven basic obligations on the fundamental duties, which are the essence of the Constitution.

She further explained that the Indian Constitution outlines people's basic rights and responsibilities which are developed along the lines of a moral, ethical, and cultural code of behaviour that must be observed by the citizens in order to maintain and defend sovereignty, unity, and integrity of the nation, which aids the government in preserving good governance and enabling a democratic society.

Prof Vishav Raksha, Head Department of Sociology, in her concluding remarks focussed on the need for such awareness programmes for the younger generation.

She further appreciated the efforts of the Law School, University of Jammu for coordinating with different departments of the University and providing their expertise to make these programmes a success.

The lecture was followed by a question and answer session where the enthusiastic students and scholars asked questions on the core values of Constitutional rights and fundamental duties at length.

Dr. Hema Gandotra, Kajal Kalsi, Dr. Gopal Sharma, Dr. Vandana Sharma the faculty members of the Department of Sociology and Law School also attended the programme.
