LG Mathur inaugurates Brand Ladakh Emporium

LEH: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, RK Mathur on Monday inaugurated Brand Ladakh Emporium- a sales outlet showcasing different handloom, handicraft and food processing products of entrepreneurs and Self-Help Groups (SHGs) of Ladakh, at Zangsti.
Commissioner/Secretary, Industries and Commerce, Saugat Biswas; Secretary, Labour and Tourism, Mehboob Ali Khan; Secretary, Law, Fayaz Ahmad Sheikh; Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Shrikant Suse; Joint Director, Handloom and Handicraft Department, Lakshay Singhal, other district officials and entrepreneurs and members of SHGs were present during the inauguration.
LG Mathur inspected the handicraft, handloom and food processing products and also interacted with the entrepreneurs and members of SHGs. Terming the promotion of products as fundamental, he emphasised the need to promote different products of entrepreneurs and SHGs from Ladakh and the need to make authentic Ladakhi products familiar to the customers. He also emphasised the need to understand Ladakhi products' nature and their properties/qualities.
LG advised that the Department of Industries and Commerce may come up with videos along with different promotional literature for handicraft, handloom and food processing products from Ladakh. He emphasised the need for international certification and lab testing of various products from Ladakh.
He stressed the need for setting up more sales outlets and opening more branches of Brand Ladakh Emporium in the main market areas of Leh and Kargil to provide space to local entrepreneurs and SHGs to improve visibility and increase the presence of their authentic Ladakhi products.
Entrepreneurs and members of SHGs highlighted various issues faced by them in promoting their products and they requested for LG Mathur's intervention during the interaction session.
