GDC Uri commemorates ‘World AIDS Day’

BARAMULLA: Under the aegis National AIDS Control Organization, the Red Ribbon Club of Government Degree College (GDC) Uri in collaboration with Department of Zoology today organised a function in the auditorium of the college to commemorate the ‘World AIDS Day', here.

The event was attended by a huge gathering of students and people of local society and started with the recitation of the Holy Quran by one of the students.

Principal, Dr. Sharief Ud Din Khan spoke on the importance of awareness regarding AIDS.

On this occasion three eminent scholars belonging to different fields were also present.

Dr. Sarfaraz Ahmad Nadvi spoke about the importance of awareness about AIDS and the need to take preventive measures to protect oneself from the disease. He also highlighted the importance of taking care of those affected by the disease.

Mufti Ab Rashid Qasmi, an eminent Islamic scholar, spoke about AIDS in the context of Islamic teachings. While speaking on the occasion, he highlighted the importance of religious knowledge and intervention in order to prevent the spread of AIDS.

Dr. Nisar Ahmad Nadvi also briefed the audiences with challenges faced by HIV AIDS counselors in day today life.

The event concluded with a question and answer session.

The audience was very interactive and asked various questions related to AIDS. The speakers answered all the questions in detail and provided useful information to the audience.
