Kathua Campus organises maiden outreach activity

KATHUA: Kathua Campus, University of Jammu organized its maiden outreach activity i.e. Cleanliness Drive Trek wherein more than 40 students along with teachers trekked from village Padna to Sundri Kot which is almost 4 kilometers steep trek and collected garbage throughout the way to encourage the spirit of cleanliness and hygiene.
The village Sundri Kot is situated in the Shivalik Hills of Billawar tehsil of Kathua district which is located at an elevation of 1000 meters above sea level.
The students enjoyed the pleasant and breathtaking view of the surrounding landscape and also displayed their talent by painting a wall at Sundri Kot which clearly depicts the message of cleanliness for all the passersby.
Dr. Meenakshi Kilam, Rector Kathua Campus, University of Jammu flagged off the trekking expedition and encouraged the students to participate in these types of mass awareness programmes along with promoting Clean India movement.
She said it is the responsibility of academic institutions to organize outreach activities in villages especially far flung areas to spread awareness among the society at the grassroots.
She reiterated that Kathua Campus shall organize similar outreach activities (atleast one per month) for sharing best practices and promoting scientific temperament among the masses by means of door to door campaign and community participation.
She further said the Campus has already undertaken various initiatives aimed at the augmentation of civil society and Kathua Campus bond for promoting the societal development of Kathua district.
Dr. Sourabh Shastri, Incharge Head, MCA Department and Convener, Sports Committee, Kathua Campus administered the cleanliness pledge to the participants at Sundri Kot.
He said the students should make maximum utilization of these types of activities to channelize their energy in the positive direction and to work for the society.
Dr. Sunny Sharma, Ritika Goyal, Pranav Ratta and Dr. Zaheen Ansari coordinated the whole activity.
