National Seminar on Crystallography organised at JU

JAMMU: Prof Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor of the University of Jammu today inaugurated three days-long 49th National Seminar on Crystallography, organised by the Department of Physics, University of Jammu, under the aegis of the National Committee on Crystallography for International Union of Crystallographs.

Prof Umesh Rai was joined by Prof T.P Singh, Distinguished Research Professor, AIIMS New Delhi and Prof Shekhar Chintami Mande, Former director general of CSIR as the guests of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor, Prof Umesh Rai talked about the application potential of the field and floated the idea of dissolving the boundaries that separate science faculties. He congratulated the department for taking the lead to organise the national scientific meet.

The convenor of the seminar, Prof Rajni Kant dwelled upon various themes, which will be deliberated on during the next three days of the event. He recalled that the department of Physics is organising this seminar for the 5th time, beginning in 1986, followed by 1992, 2002, 2010 and 2022.

He further informed the gathering that the seminar has attracted the participation of over 225 scientists from all across the nation and over 175 research presentations shall be made during three days event.

Prof T P Singh and Prof Shekhar Mande recalled their association with the University of Jammu and shared how the University of Jammu has made a mark in Small Molecule Crystallography at the national and international levels.

Prof Punit Kour president ICA also spoke on the occasion and talked about the activities of the association and said how this body can help make Crystallography important for young scientists.

Earlier, Prof Arun Bharti, Head of the Physics Department welcomed the dignitaries and the participants of the seminar, and also acknowledged the efforts of the department in organising the conference.

In the end, Dr Sandeep Arya proposed a formal vote of thanks.

The programme was attended by all the deans, heads and officers of the University, besides research scholars.

The programme was compeered by Prof Shashi Prabha from the Geography department.
