2 day Workshop on 'India-the Mother of Democracy' commences at GCW Udhampur

UDHAMPUR: To generate awareness about Political Code, Structure, Procedure, Powers and duties of Govt, fundamental rights, Directives principles and duties of Citizens, a two Day workshop on the theme "India: The Mother of Democracy" was held at Government College for Women Udhampur to celebrate Constitution Day, Sawidhan Diwas 2022.

The event was organized by Shikshit Bharat club and Department of Music, in collaboration with the department of political science, as Jan Bhagidari.

Workshop was formally inaugurated by the College Principal, Dr. Monika Sharma by lightning ceremonial lamp as the chief guest.

In her address, Dr. Monika stressed that the constitution has written laws accepted by people living together in a country and it generates trust and coordination between the government and the citizens. She further added that the constitution specifies the type of government for a country and it also lays down the supreme law of the country and envisages the fundamental rights and duties of the citizens.

Day 1 of the Workshop was divided into two sessions. In the first session, an Intra Collegiate Quiz Competition was organized, in which five teams of different semesters took part.

In the second session of day one an awareness lecture about basics of Indian constitution was delivered by Dr. Shevata Sharma (HOD Pol. Sci) as the resource person. Addressing the large gathering of students and staff, Dr. Shevata said that the constitution declares India a sovereign, socialist, secular, equality and liberty and endeavours to promote fraternity. She also highlighted the themes of the constitution i.e popular sovereignty, republicanism and separation of powers.

Dr. Mool Raj and Arun Gupta Acted as Scorer during quiz contest ,While proceeding of the programme were conducted by Miss. Pooja Bharti [HOD Geography and Miss. Sandhya Thakur.

The entire program was organized Assistant Prof. Music and conducted under the convenorship of Prof. Yash Paul [HOD History], Yash Kumar Assistant prof. of Music was Co-Convenor, Vote of thanks on this occasion was presented by Shamma Rani Assistant Prof. of Dogri.

Among others remain present on this eve were Dr. Seema Sharma, HOD Music, Kewal Kumar, HOD Chemistry, Dr. Sanjeet Kour, HOD Zoology, Prof. Sanjay Kumar, Mushtaq Ahmed, HOD Hindi, Taniya Akhter, HOD English, Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Other senior faculties and large number of students.
