GDC Pouni hosts series of events to mark Gandhi Jayanti week

REASI: NSS Unit, in Collaboration with Red Ribbon Club of Government Degree College Pouni organised varied activities under Gandhi Jayanti week.

The week full activities were organised with full enthusiasm under the supervision of the College Principal Prof Rajni Bhagat.

Prof. Balbir Kumar, Convener NSS and Prof. U S Liza, Convener RRC laid out an action plan which included a series of activities from September 29 to October 6 in connection with Gandhi Jayanti Celebration.

The formal celebration started with Principal, Prof. Rajni Bhagat's address foregrounding the Gandhian principles with reference to the experiences of his life. She urged everyone to follow the mission of the Government of the nation to do away with single use plastic and keep the surroundings clean.

On the day 2, the NSS Volunteers conducted a cleanliness drive/ Swachata on the college campus under the supervision of Prof. Balbir Kumar, which was the first activity conducted under Gandhi Jayanti Celebration.

The second event included Quiz and Essay Writing Competitions held by the Department of all Languages in collaboration with Red Ribbon Club and NSS Unit on day 3. Prof.

Balbir Kumar, Nodal NSS, Dr. Tarseem Kumar, HOD Dogri, Prof. Jaspal Singh, HOD Punjabi, Prof. U S Liza, HOD English, and Tanpreet Singh, Physical Director Education and Prof. Rajneet Kumar, HOD Urdu administered this event.

The GDC Pouni witnessed an enormous amount of participation from the students of all semesters. The topic of Quiz Competition read "Life and Values of Gandhian Life" and Dr. Tarseem Kumar assessed the Quiz. Shami Kumar held the First position, Monika Sharma stood second and Balvinder Singh and Balbir Singh stood third in the Quiz Competition. The Essay competition on the topic "Relevance of Gandhian Philosophy in Contemporary Times," interested many students who participated in it with enthusiasm.

The Essay Writing Competition was supervised by Prof. U S Liza and Tanpreet Singh, and the Essays submitted by the students were evaluated by Prof. U S Liza.

Vishali Sharma stood First, Pankush Sharma second and Arti Jamwal third in this competition.

On September 1, a lecture on the topic, "Relevance of Gandhian Philosophy in Contemporary Times," was delivered by Dr Prem Singh, Prof. Balbir kumar, Prof Jaspal Singh and Prof Rajneet kumar.

The series of activities ended with the adoption of Village Bouliyan and Kothian for Swachta and Plantation Drives on September 6. Overall, the week-long event turned out to be a happening one with the collective efforts of NSS and RRC students and all the worthy members on staff, and of course, with the guidance of esteemed Principal, Prof Rajni Bhagat.

All the winners and NSS volunteers were offered certificates and refreshments.
