DDC Chairman Udhampur calls for effective measures to eradicate menace of drugs

UDHAMPUR: To generate awareness among the students as well as general masses, an awareness programme on Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan was organised by J &K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in collaboration with the Department of Music, Cultural Committee and 1st J&K girls NCC Bn Srinagar of Government College for women Udhampur on the College campus, today.

The programme was organized under the overall guidance of Secretary JKAACL Bharat Singh and Principle of the host college Prof. (Dr) Monika Sharma.

Chairman District Development Council Udhampur, Lal Chand was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman emphasized the importance of creating awareness about this sensitive issue through such cultural programs. He lauded JKAACL & GCW Udhampur for organizing the wonderful programme in the district.

Lal Chand highlighted the need of taking effective measures to eradicate the menace of drug addiction and other social evils in the district. The students were asked to play a pro-active role in eradicating drugs from society and not to indulge in drug abuse.

Earlier, Prof. (Dr) Monika Sharma, formally welcomed the Chief guest, She informed the students about the ill effects of the menace of Drug Addiction and applauded the organisers for their endeavors to organize such an event.

On the occasion, Editor cum Cultural officer J&K Art, Culture and Languages, Dr. Shah Nawaz gave a brief resume about the programme and highlighted the objective of organizing the series of events in the UT to educate society in general and youth in particular about the destructive role of drugs. He also emphasised on the role of education in making masses aware about the bad effects of drug addiction and motivating the youth to refrain from such harmful habits.

Prof. Mool Raj, Associate Professor in Urdu also expressed his views on the effects of drugs and how it can lead to physical, social and emotional harm through the recitation of poetry.

The Students of the college, Kiran Sharma, Pritika Guleria and Sakshi Thakur of semester first also presented their views on the harmful effects of drugs on the society.

Artists from J&K Academy of Art, Culture and languages also presented a theme based cultural programme and Nukkad Natak through which they advised the students of the college not to indulge in drug abuse and also aware the masses at large about the various other social evils existing in the society due to drug abuse.

Meanwhile, a scintillating theme based cultural programme was also presented by the Ram Ditta & Group and the students of the college which mesmerized the audience.

Assistant Professor of Dogri, Shama Rani conducted the proceedings of the event and HoD Dogri Department Dr. Sushma Chaudhry presented vote of thanks.

Among others present were HoD Music, Dr. Seema Sharma, Prof.Ashni Devi, Prof.Sanjeet Kour, Prof. Yash Paul, Prof Shallu Jasrotia,Dr.Sumit Sharma , Prof Roopa Kumari, Prof. Arun Gupta, Prof. Pooja Bharti , Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Assistant Prof Yash Kumar and Ms Arti Gupta, Assistant Cultural officer Mr. Anil Tikoo, Choreographer Mr Bhupinder and a large number of students were also present on the occasion.
