DDC Rajouri reviews activities under District Swatchta Plan

RAJOURI: District Development Commissioner Rajouri, Vikas Kundal today chaired a meeting of the concerned officers to review the activities under District Swachata plan.

Speaking at the meeting, the DDC highlighted the importance of Swatchta and said that the need of the hour was to bring about a behavioural change among the people with regard to maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings.

He also said that SBM 2.0 would be launched in the district and plastic bitumen will be used to blacktop 71 KM of road under PMGSY Phase IV.

To discourage the use of single use plastic, he asked the officers to ensure a blanket ban on single use plastic in the district.

He said Self Help Groups can play a vital role in achieving the desired goals of Swatchta on ground and asked the concerned officer from NRLM to constitute more self help groups or train the already constituted SHGs in Jute bag making which can be used as an alternative to single use plastic.

He further appealed to the PRIs to supplement the efforts of the District Administration to make the district a clean and green district by mobilizing the people and reinforcing the mass movement for sanitation.

The DDC also asked the PRIs to educate the people of their areas about the harmful effects of plastic on health and environment and ensure a complete ban on use of single use plastic in their respective panchayats.

The meeting decided to set up 178 segregation units where segregation of waste would be carried out. The stress was laid on carrying out IEC activities to sensitise the public about the importance of cleanliness and sanitation and ill effects of plastic on health and environment.

The DDC also asked for ensuring active participation of NGOs, Civil society members, PRIs and all stakeholders in Swatchta drives for achieving the desired goals.

It was also decided in the meeting that special gram sabhas would be organised across the district on 24th of this month to sensitise the panchayats about the importance of the Swachhata.
