Prof Sultana N Nahar from Ohio State University delivers lecture at NIT Srinagar

‘It is a proud moment to host eminent luminary on the campus': Prof. Sehgal

SRINAGAR: As part of the "Beyond Classroom Lecture Series of Physics" Prof Sultana N. Nahar from Ohio State University USA on Tuesday delivered her maiden lecture on "X-Ray Spectroscopy for Biomedical Applications" at National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar.

The lecture was hosted by the PG, Department of Physics, NIT Srinagar to introduce students to X-Ray Spectroscopy for Biomedical Applications in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry and neighboring UG colleges.

While inaugurating the lecture Director NIT Srinagar Prof. (Dr.) Rakesh Sehgal said it is a proud moment for NIT Srinagar to host eminent luminary on the campus, that too with whom we have a decade-old relationship.

"The lecture was designed to expose our students and students from other colleges to ongoing research and career opportunities," he said.

Prof. Sehgal lauded the role of the PG Department of Physics and assured his support for such initiatives in the future.

Institute's Registrar, Prof. Syed Kaiser Bukhari said this lecture series will benefit students and help them to explore more options in the field of science and technology.

"Such lectures would help students in a long way in developing their expertise and specialization in their respective areas. It would act as great significance to our R&D programs," Prof. Bukhari said.

In her key address, Prof Sultana N. Nahar delivered her lecture on "X-Ray Spectroscopy for Biomedical Applications".

She said this area of research has a direct connection with medical applications such as cancer treatment.

Prof. Sultana also shared her inspiring academic and professional journey with the students and covered many aspects of Spectroscopy and its applications to various branches of medical physics.

She said there is no shortcut to success and one can achieve their goal only through hard work and dedication.

Prof. Sultana is also coordinating U.S. Mission India Public Diplomacy Grants Program. She earned her Ph.D. degree from Ohio State University, USA, and discussed various Indo- US programs.

Head Department of Physics, Prof. MA Shah said professionals and academicians provide a unique opportunity to take the benefit of their knowledge for human services. He had invited the neighboring undergraduate colleges along with their faculty.

Dr. Shah said in future also, the department will conduct such lectures for the benefit of the students to expose their research and career opportunities.

A formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Seemin Rubab. She expressed her gratitude to the guest expert and all participants, for making the event successful.

Many faculties from colleges and universities joined us including Dr. Rubia (CUK), Dr. Qudsia ( Women's College M.A Road), Dr. Abdia ( GDC) Anantnag), Mrs. R. Sultana ( School education), Dr. Mehraj-ud-din Shah ( Women's College Pulwama), etc.

Finally, the invited faculties from different colleges in this region were acknowledged for their efforts to come up with their respective students and joined the event.

The jam-packed room had a question-answer session, and group discussion with the guest about various initiatives of US for Indian students.
