GCW Udhampur: NCC Unit presents Skit on Nasha Mukt Bharat; College hosts Lecture on local flora & Fauna

UDHAMPUR: NCC Unit (1st J&K Girls Battalion NCC, Srinagar) of Government College for Women Udhampur organized a skit on the theme ‘Nasha Mukat Bharat' under the Nasha Mukat Bharat Abhiyan.

The Eco Club, NCC and NCC Units besides the Department of Botany also hosted a Lecture on local flora and Fauna.

As many as 12 NCC cadets of the BN and the students of the college presented the remarkable skit in the college campus. Through their performance, they raised awareness on drug abuse and its harmful effects on society.

Principal of the college, Dr. Monika Sharma highlighted the importance of creating awareness about the sensitive topic through such programs.

Meanwhile, the ECO- Club in collaboration with NSS, NCC and Department of Botany organised an interactive lecture on English, Hindi, Dogri and other vernacular names of local flora and fauna and their importance.

The resource person for the event was former IFoS Om Parkash Vidyarthi.

Convener Eco club, Prof. Rajeev Singh introduced the resource person with students.

After giving an elaborate account of vernacular names and ethnobotanist uses of various plants in college campus O P Vidyarthi visited botanical gardens and planted neem tree. He also appreciated the efforts of the Botany Department for conserving rare flora.

The event was graced by Dr. Kewal kumar(HOD Chem.), Dr. Ashni Devi,(HOD Botany), Dr. Kewal Kumar( Dept. of Botany), Prof Sumita Rao(NSS Coordinator )Prof. Sanjay Kumar(HOD Philosophy) Prof. Rajeev Singh(Coordinator ECO Club), Prof Pooja Bharti (HOD Geography), Prof Yash Kumar and about 100 students.

Incharge ANO, Shallu Jasrotia organized the event. Dr. Seema Sharma, HOD Music, Yash Kumar Assistant Professor and Arti Gupta Teaching Assistant also graced the event.
