JU organizes Gender Sensitization Workshop

JAMMU: The Centre for Women's Studies, in collaboration with the department of Political Science, University of Jammu organized 2nd workshop under ongoing series for the PG students of the department on Thursday, 18th, August 2022.

Dr. Garima Gupta, Faculty, Department of English, University of Jammu was the resource person.

To facilitate gender awareness and sensitivity among the students and scholars on the campus of the university, the workshop was planned under the able guidance and vision of Prof. Vishav Raksha, Director, Centre for Women's Studies.

At the very outset, Dr. Saranjit Kaur, Faculty, Centre for Women's Studies welcomed the participants and introduced the Resource person. Further, she apprised the participants regarding the importance of such workshops.

Dr. Garima Gupta, the key speaker for the workshop spoke about the concept of gender, and how it is seen and defined in newer contexts.

She further explained that how the ideologies and structures are oppressive in nature and how there is a dire need to break the stereotypical presumptions regarding particular gender.

While interacting with students she also conducted brainstorming activities to clarify the difference between sex and gender and stressed that gender sensitization will surely inculcate gender-neutral thinking among the students which would lead to harmonious gender relations for a better future.

A large number of participants comprising of students, scholars and faculty members of the Political Science department attended the workshop.

The workshop was very well received by the participants who enthusiastically took part in the interaction which was followed by the lecture.

The participants shared their views and observations on the issues like gender discrimination, gender neutrality, safety rights, stereotypical roles, etc.

The workshop was conducted by Dr. Saranjit Kaur, faculty, Centre for Women's Studies who also presented the formal vote of thanks.

The office staff of the Centre for Women's Studies and Political Science department looked after the digital modalities of the workshop.
