Rohit Sharma returns to lead in ODIs, T20Is vs West Indies, Jasprit Bumrah and Shami rested

MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday, January 26 announced the Indian squads for the ODI and the T20I series against the West Indies at home. India will play 3 ODIs from February 6 in Ahmedabad and as many T20Is in Kolkata from February 16.

Rohit Sharma, who missed India's tour of South Africa due to a hamstring injury, returns to lead the ODI squad and the T20I squad. Former captain Virat Kohli is part of both the ODI and T20I squads for the West Indies series.

Vice-captain KL Rahul will be available from only the 2nd ODI of the 3-match series, starting February 6 in Ahmedabad, the BCCI said.

Rohit cleared the mandatory fitness test at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru following which he attended the selection meeting with the senior selection committee.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami have been rested from both the series while left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav returns to the ODI squad.

Washington Sundar, who missed the South Africa ODIs after contracting Covid-19, is part of both the squads for the home series.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been dropped from the ODI squad after an underwhelming performance in the 3-match in South Africa earlier this month. Senior spinner R Ashwin is reportedly unavailable for the West Indies series due to injury concerns.
