JU’s PG Deptt, GDC Udhampur emerge winners in Handball

JAMMU: PG Department of University of Jammu emerged as winner of Handball in women category and clinched title, while Government Degree College (GDC) Udhampur secured men title in the inter-collegiate competitions, organised by the Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu.

In the final match, PG Department beat GCW Udhampur by a huge margin of 9-1 goals in women section, while GDC Udhampur outplayed PG Department by 19-12 goals in men section.

Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, JU presented the trophies and medals to the winners and runner up teams in the presence of Raj Kumar Bakshi, Ravish Vaid, Vikas Karlopia, Imtiaz Shahid and Sanjeev Sharma.

In Boxing, GDC Samba clinched overall Boxing (M&W) title and lift the trophy.

In men section, Aarif Wani (GDC Jindrah) and Harish Dev Singh (GDC Sidhra) stood winner and runner-up respectively, while in women category, Preeti Devi (GDC Chenani) emerged winner, while Avantika Devi (GDC Chenani) remained runner-up.

Rajan Sharma, secretary J&K Boxing Association was the chief guest, while Anil Vadera senior coach J&K Sports Council was the guest of honour. Winners and runner-ups were awarded with trophies and medals.

In Fencing foil men individual category, Parshant Chib, Gourav Thakur and Parvinder Sharama of GDC Reasi clinched top three medals respectively, while Sawan Magotra of GDC Kunjwani also clinched bronze medal, whereas epee, Parvinder Sharma, Gaurav Thakur and Harsh Singh of GDC Reasi secured top three medals respectively, while Sawan Magotra also clinched bronze medal, besides in sabre, Suryansh of GDC Bishnah, Udeyvir Singh of Dogra Law College and Lakshay Sharma of GCET clinched gold, silver and bronze medals respectively and Siddant Raina of MIET also clinched bronze medal.

In foil women category individual, Diksha Sharma of PG Department of JU, Vanshika Bandral of GDC Reasi and Mansi Spolia of GCW Parade secured top three medals, while Anshika Bandral of GDC Reasi also clinched bronze medal and in epee category, Gazal Suri of JCP, Pihul Rajput of GCW Udhampur and Riya Manhas of GDC Reasi won top three medals, while Mansi Spolia of GCW Parade clinched bronze medal also, besides in sabre category, Jaspreet Kour of PG Department of JU, Mokshika of GCW Parade and Riya Manhas of GDC Reasi bagged top three medals respectively, while Rashika of PG Department of JU also clinched bronze medal.

The overall championship of both men & women sections were won by the GDC Reasi.

Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu awarded medals & trophies to the winners in the presence of Supriya Chauhan.
