GDC Basohli organises online extension lecture on World Population Day

KATHUA: Govt. Degree College, Basohli, organised an online Extension Lecture on the occasion of World Population Day with theme, ‘Rights and Choices are Answers: Whether baby Boom or Bust, the solution to shifting fertility rates lies in prioritizing the Reproductive health and rights of all People'.

The event commenced with the welcome address of the Principal, Dr. Nidhi Kotwal. In her introductory remarks, she deliberated on the various issues coupled with the increasing population of the country.

She also emphasized on sensitizing the populace of the country vis-à-vis family planning and reproductive health by community participation and discussions at grass root level.

In his extension lecture, Dr. Amrik Singh, Assistant Professor, P.G. Department of Geography, Govt. Degree College, Kathua, discussed the significance of the World Population Day in the present scenario. He reiterated the importance of curtailing the fertility rates, and prioritizing the reproductive health and various rights of people associated with it.

He further stated that with nearly 65% population between 18-35 yrs age, there is urgent need of framing policy/law regarding management of population for the betterment of future generations.

The event culminated with the vote of thanks presented by Dr. Kehar Singh. The program was organized by Prof. Pawan Kumar, Head, Department of Geography.

The proceedings were attended by Prof. Sanjeev Kumar Gupta, Dr. R.K. Manhas, Dr. Papinder Kumar, Dr. Gotam Singh, Prof. Suresh Barwal, Dr. Shiv Kumar, Prof. Brham Dutt, Dr. Shiv Mangal Singh, Dr. Jeevan Kashyap, Sandeep Kumar and Sandeep Sharma along with undergraduate students of various Semesters.
