Cop among 4 held for rape of minor girl in Kulgam

SRINAGAR: Police has arrested four persons including a police constable for allegedly raping a minor girl in South Kashmir's Kulgam district.
Police sources said that a cop who used to stay at a rented accommodation in Qazigund area allegedly raped and impregnated a minor girl who then brought the matter to the notice of the police.
They further stated that the girl aged 16 reached a Primary Health Centre (PHC) Qazigund for a normal check-up where doctors told her that she was pregnant.
After that, the girl reported the matter to the Police Station Qazigund and claimed that she was raped by a person, who was later identified as a policeman.
"In this regard, Police Station Qazigund received a written complaint from an individual alleging therein that her daughter was raped by three persons at Bonigam Qazigund with the help of a woman of Damjen area," sources said.
Accordingly, a proper case vide FIR No. 61/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Qazigund and investigation was initiated.
"All the accused persons involved in the offence were arrested and they were identified as Zahoor Ahmad Mir son of Mohammad Ahsan Mir resident of Beebrada Parigam, Aejaz Ahmad Shah son of Mohammad Yousuf Shah resident of Cheyan Devsar, Kifayat Ahmad Malik son of Ghulam Hassan Malik resident of Yaripora and Shabrooza wife of Mushtaq Ahmad Itoo resident of Damjen," police sources said.
They said that during the investigation, it surfaced that the accused police personnel was not on duty when the offence was committed neither it had been committed inside police premises. "In addition to criminal proceedings, departmental proceedings have also been initiated against the accused policeman they added."
