Refresher Course in Disaster Management concludes at JU

JAMMU: A two-week refresher course in Disaster Management organized by UGC-HRDC University of Jammu in cooperation with the Geology Department under the Co-ordinatorship of Prof. Sundeep Pandita concluded today.
Speaking in the valedictory function, the Chief Guest, Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu said that the disasters have become part of our lives and there is a need to make all possible efforts in safeguarding our society against the impacts of these disasters.
He stressed for dissemination of knowledge about disasters and making all the stakeholders resilient to disasters. He thanked the participants for choosing Jammu University for undergoing refresher course in disaster management and asked them to share the knowledge gained among their students and friends.
Earlier, Director, Prof Rahul Gupta, thanked all the participants for choosing the University of Jammu for attending this course and dealt upon the efforts are taken by HRDC in conducting various courses.
While presenting the report of the programme Prof. Sundeep Pandita, Coordinator of the course informed that the course started on 15th February 2021 in online mode and was attended by 43 Assistant Professors from different disciplines from the colleges and universities of different states and union territory of J&K.
He also reported that the eminent academicians, researchers, administrators, medical professionals and disaster management professionals from the premier institutions like NDRF, NIDM, SASE (DRDO), AIDMI, IMD, WIHG, SMVDU, J&K Police, universities of Jammu and Kashmir, Medical Colleges, J&K Disaster Management Department etc. were the resource persons for the refresher course.
During the programme various aspects of the natural and anthropogenic disasters were discussed which included DM Act, causes and mitigation measures of disasters, disaster preparedness, disaster-resistant structures, the economics of disasters, medical emergencies, managing post-traumatic stress, drug addiction, cybersecurity and IT Act and other health issues.
Few participants while giving feedback thanked HRDC and Geology Department for giving them an opportunity to undergo this useful refresher course. They highlighted the efforts of the Co-ordinator in arranging high-quality resource persons and managing the course efficiently.
Ranjeet Kalra, teaching faculty, HRDC presented the vote of thanks. Prof Pankaj Srivastava, Co-coordinator of the programme and other faculty members also joined the online programme.
