Manjit Singh seeks Govt’s attention for promotion of sports

JAMMU: Seeking attention of Government towards the promotion of sports, Apni Party provincial president and former Minister, Manjit Singh has appealed for improvement in infrastructure at the district level in a bid to attract youth towards the mainstream.

The sports activities have always played a positive role in the development of any society and the same needs to be done in Jammu and Kashmir by the Government, observed former Minister, Manjit Singh in his address to the sportsmen.

These sports men had come to the Apni Party office at Gandhi Nagar through Simranjeet Singh in which they highlighted their issues after facing negligence from the Government and Sports Departments.

"There is complete silence of the Government on the promotion of sportsmanship and the decisions are only confined to the files and office meetings. The grounds are not available for the hockey players across Jammu especially," the former Minister said.

He said that the sportsmen have alleged that the coaches are not available and there is poor infrastructure and no play grounds for hockey players in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Having one hockey stadium in Jammu district does not mean that the Sports Department has played its role. They had to develop infrastructure at the district level and it has miserably failed to perform on the ground," said Manjit Singh.

He said that "The increasing narcotics smuggling and consumption in three districts of Jammu plains have worried police and security agencies. Besides, destroying the families and society as a whole, the drug addiction has affected national security."

He said that the Government should take into account the role of the Sports Department in promotion of sports activities in all the districts. "We should involve youth in sports to keep them away from addiction," he said.

Manjit Singh was speaking before the group of youth who joined the Apni Party. Prominent among those who joined the party included Harjot Singh, Harwinder Singh, Vishal Chib, Avneet Singh, Manjder Singh, Tarandeep Singh, Tanishpreet Singh, Gunjot Singh, Sanandeep Singh, Rajinder Singh, Sandeep Singh and Harpreet Singh.
Those who were present on occasion included Pranav Shagotra, Gourav Kapoor, Raqeeq Ahmed Khan, JP Singh, Dalbir Singh, Jagmeet Singh Bali, Vaibhav Mattoo, Vishal Zutshi among others.
