World Online Poomsae Championship begins

JAMMU: Involving 250 athletes from 64 clubs representing 24 countries, a unique multi-nation Word Online Poomsae (Club) Championship started under the banner of J&K Taekwondo Association (JKTA) at Atul International Taekwondo Academy, here.

World Poomsae Champion, Ollin Medina of Mexico has been made Brand Ambassador for the championship which is being sponsored by Universal Sports Industries (USI), Jalandhar. The technical penal for the event included international referees from around the world.

They are Grand Masters, Satwinder Singh Vohra (England), Baert Erik (Belgium), Song Jae Seoung (Korea), Lee Wan Yong (Korean Culture Centre, India) and Master Atul Pangotra (India).

Earlier, the event was formally opened by Director Korean Culture Centre, India, Kim Kum Pyoung as Chief Guest.

Rouf Ahmad Bhat (President, JKCSNGEU), P. Achuta Reddy (General Secretary, Andra Pradesh), Anurag Chadda CEO, USI and Deepak Handa (social activist) were Guests of Honour.

Also present online were Jagjit Singh (General Secretary, JKTA), Nissar Hussain (Vice President JKTA), and Subash Shastri (President NMS) and Ramesh Chander Sharma (Joint Secretary JKTA), Satish Dhull, Secretary General Qwankido Federation of India as Special Guests.

Earlier, Director of Atul International Taekwondo Academy (AITA), Anuj presented a brief note of the event conveying that such events help athletes get engaged with the game in the Covid-19 pandemic.

He thanked the director Korean Culture Centre, India, Kim Kum Pyoung for collaborating with the JKTA and also expressed his gratitude to CEO USI, Anurag Chadda for the sponsorship.

The participating countries included Tnisia, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Portugal, Great Britain, North Korea, Pakistan, Russian, Hong Kong, South Korea, Oman, Peru, Mexico, Malaysia, Colombia, Bahrain, Slovennia, Nigeria, United States, Morocco and Yemen.
