Red Ribbon Club, JU organizes Online Competition on 'World No Tobacco Day'

JAMMU: Every year on 31 May, WHO and global partners celebrate World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) around the world.

The day is intended to draw attention to the widespread prevalence of tobacco use and negative health effects.

To commemorate the World No Tobacco Day (WNTD) the Red Ribbon Club, Department of Students' Welfare, University of Jammu in collaboration with J&K AIDS Control Society, Health and Medical Department, UT of Jammu & Kashmir organized, E-Drawing/E-Poster-Making/ E-Slogan, Meme, Graphics or Any Creativity Competition on the theme 'Protecting Youth from Industry Manipulation and Preventing them from Tobacco and Nicotine Use' on 'World No Tobacco Day- 2020' held w.e.f. 31stMay to 12th June 2020.

For this competition, keeping in view of COVID-19 pandemic Lockdown, the Red Ribbon Club University of Jammu and J&K AIDS Control Society, Health and Medical Department augmented this opportunity to organize online competition at home and engage the youth to do creative art at their homes.

For this purpose an online form was designed to upload and submit photographs of e-posters, e-slogans, meme and graphics. The online competition was open to all participants like Red Ribbon Club Volunteers, Students, and Alumni. More than 60 participants from different areas of Jammu and Kashmir participated in Online -competition.

The participants who participated were generally from University of Jammu, University of Kashmir and three students were from School.

All the participants participated in the event with great enthusiasm and fervor.

Srishti Koul, Department of Chemistry, University of Jammu, bagged first prize, while Mehak Mahajan from the Department of Commerce, University of Jammu, won 2nd prize, the 3rd prize was shared by two participants namely Tabasum Faried from Department of Library and Information Science, University of Kashmir and Sunny Singh, Department of Law, University of Jammu.

The Certificates of Appreciation are won by three participants namely Ishfaq Hussain Faried from Department of Library and Information Science, University of Kashmir, Ashwani Kumar, Department of Library and Information Science,University of Jammu and Davinder Singh, University of Jammu.

Besides this ,three Certificates of Appreciation are won by three school students namely Haleema Tazeem Tantary, Standard 9th Army Goodwill Public School, Rajouri, Peehu Sharma , 9th Standard, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Bantalab, Jammu, and Siya Parihar, 8th Standard, Model Academy, Jammu for their participation in the competition.

All participants will be awarded with a certificate of participation.

The Volunteers designed e-posters /slogans for creating awareness among public about the ill effects of tobacco.

The Online competition was conducted under the supervision and guidance of Prof. Jasbir Singh, Dean Students Welfare, University of Jammu, Jammu and Project Director, Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Rather and was coordinated by Dr. Meghna Dhar, Nodal Officer, Red Ribbon Club, Deptt, of Students Welfare, University of Jammu, Jammu with the mutual cooperation of Dr. Deepika B.Thakur, Dy.Director.(BTS),(IEC), JKAC, Rajesh Sharma, Assistant Director, (Youth Affairs ),JKACS and Rishesh Khajuria, Assistant Director, JKACS.

Prof. Jasbir Singh ,Dean Students Welfare, lauded the efforts of RRC Volunteers for the successful conduct of the online event.

Project Director Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Rather, laid stressed upon the need for more such online meets to resolve the problem of HIV/AIDS and Drug Abuse.
