CEC reviews status of developmental works

KARGIL: In order to review and discuss the formulation of DPRs and kick start of developmental works in Kargil town under SDP, UT Budget and Capex Budget during the current fiscal, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan convened a meeting of the public representatives and concerned officers at Council Secretariat here.

The prime agenda of the meeting was to ensure proper coordination between the major stakeholders in order to avoid duplicacy of projects and to expedite the pace of developmental works keeping in view the short working season.

President, Municipal Committee, Kargil Zaheer Hussain Babar, District Superintending Engineer PWD Kargil Ved Prakash, Councilor Kargil Town Haji Muhammad Abbass, Councilor Poyen Haji Muhammad Amin, Councilor Baroo Minjee Sheikh Ghulam Mehdi, Vice President Municipal Committee Kargil, Executive Engineers of R&B II and EM&RE, PDD Kargil, Executive Officer, Municipal Committee, Kargil, AD Tourism Kargil and other concerned officers attended the meeting.

During the course of the meeting, the officers concerned informed the CEC about various projects related to infrastructure development, strengthening of street lights, macdamization of internal link roads, identification of land for different projects, river front development and other related projects proposed by PWD, Municipal Committee and Tourism Department for development of Kargil Town.

It was decided in the meeting that necessary changes will be made in the in the scheme namely River Front Development Project proposed by the Tourism Department Kargil and the project would be started from New Bus Stand Kargil to Sher Bagh Baroo instead of Poyen Motorable Bridge to Sher Bagh as proposed earlier as the river front development work on this road stretch is already being executed by the PWD Department Kargil. It was further decided that a component for river front development from Old Wooden Bridge Poyen to Braqdok Hunaki would be incorporated in this scheme in lieu of the work beginning from Poyen Bridge up to Bus Stand.

The CEC directed the AD Tourism Kargil to ensure the necessary preservation and face-lifting of all old buildings in Old Bazar Kargil under the Old Bazar Beautification Scheme proposed by Tourism Department under SDP.

It was decided in the meeting that the AD Tourism and Executive Engineer R&B II will conduct a joint visit of the area from Bus Stand Kargil to Sher Bagh, Old Wooden Bridge Poyen to Braqdok Hunaki as well as Old Kargil Bazar to assess the availability of land required for expansion and modifications and to ascertain their respective project components and requirements so as to avoid any sort of duplicacy before the preparation of DPRs.

The meeting further decided that projects for double laning of the 2 Motorable bye pass bridges at Poyen and Shilikchey, four laning of the road from Petrol Pump to Council Secretariat with dividers and Link Road from Changrah to Aba Grong needs to be prepared which would help a great deal in lessening traffic congestion in Kargil Town.

Feroz Khan further directed the Executive Officer MC Kargil, Tehsildar Kargil and Executive Engineer R&B II to expedite the construction of pedestrian lanes on both sides of Poyen bridge by addressing all pending issues in due consultation with the Councilor Poyen.

CEC Khan also directed the SE PWD Kargil to extract all defunct pipe line connections in Kargil town besides also ensuring the proper land filling and digging of functional and to be laid pipes in a proper manner. He also directed the Executive Engineer EM&RE PDD to ensure proper removal of debris after installation of electric poles in Kargil town whereas the AD Tourism Kargil was directed to immediately remove the fallen Tourism Reception heavy iron signage board near Iqbal Bridge besides expediting the process of installation of a new signage board.
