Google Doodle celebrates Leap Day 2020 with animated illustration

SAN FRANCISCO: Google celebrated Leap Day 2020 and with an animated doodle.

February 29 is known as a leap day or leap year day that occurs every four years and Google Doodle, on its part, marks it with quirky illustrations.

This particular date is added to those years that are divisible by 4. In case of a leap year, one extra day is added to calendars as that year in particular lasts for 366 days instead of 365.

So as to explain this phenomenon, the Google Doodle page elaborated, "This is to keep our calendar in sync with the rotation of the Earth around the sun. Without Leap Day, we'd be out of sync by about six hours per year."

Leap Day 2020 was preceded by the date in 2016 and will occur next in 2024. Google celebrated Leap Day 2016 with a doodle featuring hopping bunnies. It was created by artist Olivia Huynh.

Of the Leap Day 2020 illustration, the Google Doodle page said, "Today's Doodle is jumping for joy on Leap Day, the 29th day of February that only occurs about every four years, to keep our calendars in alignment with the Earth and sun."

"We HOP you have a good one-Happy Leap Day!" it added.
