MIER College celebrates Human Rights Day

JAMMU: MIER College of Education celebrated Human Rights Day by organizing a function to award certificates for the Course on Human Rights and Values.

The Chief Guest of the function was Mukesh Singh, IGP Jammu Zone.

Others present on the occasion were Prof SunitaZalpuri, Head Centre for Good Governance IMPA, Dr. Renu Gupta Vice Chairperson MIER group, Dr. Adit Gupta, Director and Principal MIER College, Dr. Mool Raj Sharma, HoD PG Department, Dr. Rohnika Sharma, HoD UG Department along with the faculty and students of the college.

Dr. Adit Gupta extended a warm welcome to the chief guest and other dignitaries and added that the course is a path breaking initiative by MIER. He also welcomed the 8th batch of new students of the course which is of three months duration.

Monika Rathore, Course Coordinator, formally gave a brief introduction of the course. She elaborated upon the objectives of the course, and informed that over 300 students have successfully passed out from the portal of this college.

Speaking on the occasion, Singhcongratulated the students for taking up the course and successfully completing it. He further added that human rights concept is the idea that all people should be able to live with dignity and respect. Violations of human rights amount to the violation of humanity.

Singh said that it is important that the youth must voice their concern against human rights violations. Youth is the biggest agent of change in our society so they should come forward to understand various human rights concerns and help develop the righteous approach in maintaining dignity and honor of their own self and self of others.

A human rights documentary was shown followed by an informative play titled "Ek Glass Pani" which was appreciated by the audience. Later the students who had completed the course successfully were awarded certificates by the chief guest. The participants also shared their observations and experiences during the course.

A memento was presented to the chief guest by Dr. Renu Gupta, Vice Chairperson MIER.

The programme was ably conducted by Sakshi Pathak,and the Vote of Thanks was presented by Dr. Rohnika Sharma, HoD UG Department MIER College.
