ICCR holds mega event on International Folk Songs & Dances

JAMMU: Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, Regional Office, Jammu and Kashmir staged a special mega event on "International Folk Songs and Dances" by world famous Cheshti Artistic and Musical Group from Afghanistan at Baba Jitto Auditorium, Sher-i- Kashmiri University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST), Chatha.

On the occasion, the chief guest was Girish Chandra Murmu, Lieutenant Governor of J&K, while guest of honour was Dr Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, President ICCR and Member, Rajya Sabha.

While welcoming the dignitaries and guests, Dr Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, President ICCR said that ICCR is a cultural wing of MEA which seeks to enhance India's soft diplomatic power worldwide and boosts India's skills of cultural diplomacy as well as bring India and other countries and their people together through cultural and educational initiatives /exchanges. He also thanked SKUAST Jammu for hosting this first ever international event in collaboration with RO ICCR Jammu. He also promised to hold such cultural programmes of international fame bringing nuances of cultural of host and guest country and its people together.

Speaking on the occasion, Girish Chandra Murmu, Lt Governor of J&K emphasized on the need for mutual interaction among the diverse section of the society and the nations to help understand each other's perspective better and promote friendship and goodwill.

Deliberating on this grandeur event, he also stressed on the need and significance of mutual exchange of culture prosperity and preservation along with the overall development of the J&K UT to usher in a new era.

Today's performance by world famous Cheshti Artistic and Musical Group from Afghanistan captivated everyone in the audience with their powerful medley of singing and melodious Gazal.

Another striking feature of the programme was the versatile anchoring done by presenter Rajni.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Dr KS Risam, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST Jammu.
