Ali Chandan flagged off Wildlife Campus Caravan in Kargil

KARGIL: With an aim to generate wider awareness and conservation consciousness amongst school and college Students, Wildlife Department in collaboration with Centre for Wildlife Studies and Conservation GDC Kargil conceptualized a mobile wildlife Campus Caravan.

The main aim of the initiative is to creatively join students and young population to wildlife conservation efforts and campaign as supporters and members, and to draw attention to local wildlife diversity and threats to their existence. 

The Wildlife Campus Caravan was flagged off by Executive\Councillor for Health & Wildlife Mohammad Ali Chandan along with Regional Wildlife Conservator Kargil Mohammad Sajid Sultan.

The Caravan will be conducted at different educational institutions and will do wildlife talks, wildlife Film screening, wildlife competitions, wildlife panchayat, wildlife conservation certificate and wildlife photo exhibitions and many more. 

Mohammad Sajid Sultan while taking to the students told that Kargil has the richest biodiversity in Ladakh and has not got proper representation in the last 30 to 35 years. 

It's our responsibility is particularly on the youth ambassador of Wildlife to come forward for conservation of wildlife and this rich biodiversity for a bright future, he said. 

The department is doing its best to reach the position which nature has made Kargil and for that all the stake holders has to support Wildlife department, He added.

Execuive Councilor Mohammad Ali Chandan who is the brain behind such initiative said that Youth should come forward not only in these fields but also participate in politics so that they became the agent of Change and make Kargil developed and happy place to sustain.

He further said that the process of long ending demand of wildlife sanctuary is at its finale stage and soon Kargil will have two Wildlife Sanctuaries, as Suru Wildlife sanctuary and Zanskar High altitude Sanctuary.

This will reduce the problem of Human Wildlife Conflicts, better wildlife conservation as well as improvement in the livelihood of the villagers falling under these sanctuaries, he added.

Mohammad Ali Chandan referring the problem of the growing unemployment said that Due to shortage of employees the department is facing problem to mitigate the issues and to overcome these problems LAHDC is continuously in touch with the Governor office and raising the issue with the concerned authority.

Despite of having great potential of wildlife potentials in Kargil, it is lacking behind in all spheres and if managed properly it will generate revenue by promoting it in different spheres whether it is tourism, trekking etc.

Later the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour distributed prizes amongst the winner of the Wildlife photography competition themed on Wildlife of “Kargil” in which 27 students participated.

Shamima Banoo 5th semester GDC Kargil was adjudged as 1st position, Hamida Banoo of 5th semester as 2nd and Mohammad Ali of 5th semester as 3rd.
