MIER Academy lifts Pulwama Martyrs Cricket Trophy

IGP Jammu, cricketers pay floral tributes to brave hearts

JAMMU: The MIER Cricket Academy lifted the Pulwama Martyrs Cricket title by defeating Col. RN Chopra Cricket Academy in the finals played at the Railway Station Grounds, here on Monday.

Earlier batting first after winning the toss, MIER Academy scored 196 runs in 30 overs. Dhruv playing a fine inning of 74 runs followed by Shezad, who equally played well and scored 67 runs while Sameer made 28.

For RN Chopra Academy, Aditya and Tegvansh took three wickets each.

In reply, Col RN Chopra failed to chase the target and managed to score only 154 runs. Sameer was the top scorer with 40 runs while Shavac made 32. For MIER Academy, Shezad was the most successful bowler, who scalped three wickets.

For taking three wickets and scoring 67 runs, Shezad was declared Man of the Match.

In the concluding ceremony, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu, Mukesh Singh was the Chief Guest who gave away the trophies to winner and runner-up teams in presence of Ranjeet Kalra, Member JKCA and Vinay Sharma, SP South Jammu.

IGP Jammu Mukesh Singh and the State cricketing fraternity also paid floral tributes to the brave-heart Pulwama Martyrs in whose memory the ten-day cricket tournament was organised.

Speaking on the occasion, IGP Mukesh Singh praised the efforts of Ranjeet Kalra and the Trikuta Cricket Academy for organising the tournament and for paying tributes to the 40 CRPF officers and men who made the supreme sacrifice for the country on February 14, 2019.

He congratulated the talented young cricketers for exhibiting a sense of sportsmen-ship and patriotism while playing in the cricket tourney.

Prominent persons present include former JK Ranji players Surjeet Singh and Inderjeet Singh, Member JKCA Rajesh Dhar, Balbir Singh, Mukesh Kumar, Arun Sharma, Bhupinder Singh, Karunesh Gupta, Sameer Makin and Amandeep Singh.
