Technical glitch at Gladni, Jammu slips into darkness
Aug 30, 2019
Frequent power cuts in Jammu region is not a new problem but one of the biggest grid stations in the state i.e., Gladni is currently facing fault in 400-MVA transformer which has plunged Jammu into darkness.
People are exasperated due to the unscheduled power cuts in this hot humid weather. The Power supply to several areas in Jammu city and its outskirts is likely to remain affected because of the fault.
Although, the power demand of Jammu province has increased beyond its allotment but the concerned department must take stringent actions to stop power pilferage instead unscheduled power curtailments.
Time and again, people have raised questions against the inability of Power Development Department (PDD) and the state administration to handle extra power load leading to frequent tripping.
Aanchal Gupta from Narwal said, "The frequent and unscheduled power cuts have made our lives hell. Despite paying timely bills, we are suffering badly."
Apart from Jammu, other regions like Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi and Udhampur is getting power supply for only six to seven hours daily since August 27 which has worsened the situation.
Subha Rani from Rajouri said. "We receive power for hardly seven to eight hours in this hot and humid weather conditions. Our children cannot study or sleep properly due to power cuts. I urge the department to provide regular power supply in Rajouri."
As per sources in the power department, the electricity will be restored as soon as the 400-MVA transformer is repaired at Gladni.
