Amit Sharma wins J&K UT award in National Public Transport Summit for E-Bus Launch

PUNE : Amit Sharma, Special Secretary to Government, Transport Department holding additional charge of J&K Road Safety Council received a special Award for Successful Launch of Electric or E-Buses in Jammu and Kashmir divisions of the state during National Public Transport Summit held in Pune.

This special National Summit on Transport Sector was organised by Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited in collaboration with Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation and Central Institute of Road Transport.

Special Secretary Transport Amit Sharma, who was a Special invitee in this National Public Transport Summit was a Key Speaker here, wherein he led and moderated the most important session on "Public Private Partnership for Building Smarter and Safer Transport Solutions". During moderation of this session, Amit was particularly focused on discussing contemporary issues relating to different states thereby terming PPP mode in Transport Sector as a perfect alternative to counter challenges to bring transparency, accountability and efficiency in provision of optimal commutation solutions to the otherwise loss-making SRTCs in many states.

He concluded the Panel discussion with an idea of involvement of multiple stakeholders such as policy makers, corporate leaders, academic experts and stakeholders in reviving PSUs in different places with the help of PPP model which is best suited to the Smart Transport requirements in Smart Cities of the day.

Other co-panelists during this lively Session moderated by Special Secretary Transport J&K Amit Sharma included Sudesh Kumar, Commissioner, Department of Transport, Government of Kerala, M Harekrishna, Secretary, Department of Transport, Government of Manipur, Prof Amrutur Bharadwaj, Chairman Robert Bosch Center for Cyber Physics Scheme, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, Sanjay L Ghate, General Manager, Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited, Government of Goa, Sanjay Bhatia, Government & STU Business Ahead, TATA Motors Limited and an Officer of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation. Even an International Perspective was shared by Liu Mingming, Economic and Commercial Counsellor, Consulate General of People's Republic of China in Mumbai.

Apart from this, all states and UTs present in this National Summit shared their respective initiatives take in the field of Public Transport wherein J&K's initiative was awarded after a qualitative briefing on 40 Electric Buses launch for both capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar was given by Amit Sharma, Special Secretary Transport J&K UT.

He also shared several Road Safety related measures being taken here including recent one relating to launch of more than 10 bikes to oversee safety on J&K Highways and other state roads alongwith plans to implement ITMS system in J&K SRTC soon for the convenience of people. Those present in the Summit gave a standing ovation for J&K's special initiatives for Road Safety and Public Transport When Special Secretary Amit Sharma received an Award from Nayana Gunde, Chairman and Managing Director, Pune Mahanagar Praivahan Mahamandal Limited alongwith Dr Rajendra Jagtap, CEO, Pune Smart City Development Corporation Limited.

Overall, a very strong message was given to all in this all-important National Summit on Public Transport by Special Secretary Transport Amit Sharma about the recent several positive measures being introduced in J&K UT for overhauling the transport department functioning so that the Accidental Rates on J&K Roads could also be brought down to the minimum and public transport sector through usage of PPP mode and alike steps can prosper in the UT.
