Job Opportunities at your doorstep | Food Craft Institute Jammu offers courses in Baking, House-keeping, Front Office

Food is considered as an extension of the culture. One cannot taste a dish and completely ignore its origin and journey. Culinary art begins with a fascination for the craft. And particularly in India, a land of diversities is a home for people who genuinely love food. Thus, cooking at home and then sharing the food with friends and family is seen as an interesting activity.

In order to keep our culinary traditions alive and to teach the skills to future generations, Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India has opened various Institutes of Hotel Management (IHMs) or Food Craft Institutes (FCIs). One such Food Craft Institute is established in Jammu at Bamyal Morh, Nagrota, Jammu just 2 kms away from IIT Campus Jammu Jagti. The Institute was inaugurated in November 2016 by the then Chief Minister of the State, Mehbooba Mufti.

It is an autonomous society sponsored by the State Government with an objective to provide quality education in the key operational areas of hotels & hospitality industry and to empower the students to succeed in today’s dynamic world.

Jammu Links News Team met Jyoti Bhatti, Principal Food Craft Institute Jammu and asked about the purpose of establishing such an institute in the State. He said, “Food Craft Institute Jammu is dedicated to impart quality Education & Training in the field of Hospitality management to prepare globally competitive professionals. It is a splendid place to acquire professional Knowledge in service and hospitality industry. So, students must come and explore all the courses offered by us and enroll themselves at the earliest to gain knowledge about one of the top running service sector i.e., Hospitality. ”

Since, results for Class Xth and XIIth were declared quite a while ago in Jammu region so the students who are interested in Hospitality sector can join Food Craft Institute Jammu and become future chefs or even entrepreneurs. The Institute offers various 1.5 year Diploma courses:

  • Diploma in Food Production
  • Diploma in Food and Beverage Service
  • Diploma in Bakery and Confectionery
  • Diploma in House Keeping Operation
  • Diploma in Front Office Operation

Full-fledged labs for different diploma courses are available in the Institute. The infrastructure includes Basic Training Kitchen, Quantity Food Kitchen, Training Restaurant, Bakery and Confectionery, Beverage Lab, Housekeeping Labs, Computer Lab, Library, Amphitheatre, Separate Girls and Boys locker room, Canteen, Sports facility and Conference Hall.

Food Craft Institute Jammu also organizes various events time and again to groom their students.

Last year, the institute organized Chef Competition, Dogri Food Festival, Picnics, Quiz Competition, Painting Competition, Plantation Drive, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Junior Master Chef Competition.

As per the statistics given by Govt. of India, the Indian tourism and hospitality industry has emerged as a key driver of growth among services sector in India. Both tourism and hospitality sector has vast potential to further the growth process as India has great historical heritage, ecological variety, beautiful places spread across the length and breadth of the country.

The Tourism and Hospitality sector is predicted to be the largest employment generator which will immensely contribute to foreign exchange of the country. During 2018*, FEEs from tourism increased 4.70 percent year-on-year to US$ 28.59 billion. FEEs during January 2019 were US$ 2.55 billion.

The employment opportunities are on rise in the inbound tourism industry in India as it is in great shape currently. The mushrooming of various cafes and hotel chains in Jammu region indicate a great scope of employment in the hospitality sector. Thus, students pursuing courses to handle key operational areas of hotels and hospitality industry can easily make a healthy shift to securing a great job and also making a great impact on positive growth of Indian inbound tourism and hospitality sector.
