Amit Sharma leads SANJY 2019 Nunwan Base Camp at Pahalgam

SRINAGAR: Amit Sharma, Special Secretary to Government, Transport Department with Additional Charge of J&K Road Safety Council took over the charge of Camp Director of traditional Base camp of Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2019 located at Nunwan about 1 km before Pahalgam town couple of days back as per the Deputation Order issued in this behalf by Government recently in this behalf.

Immediately after taking over, Camp Director Amit Sharma took a round of entire Nunwan Base Camp alongwith Police Officers, CRPF, Fire & Emergency Services, Health Department, Para Military teams, Security officers, FCS&CA team, PDD, PHE, Pahalgam Development Authority teams and officers deputed in the Camp to check all installed facilities for Yatries inside the Base Camp.

It was followed by an introductory interaction meeting led by Camp Director Amit Sharma with all officers deputed pointedly for Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2019 and all departments shared their level of preparedness about it. Various officers who attended the meeting include SSP Benam Tosh who heads Joint PCR locates at Pahalgam in Southern Axis, SDM Pahalgam Faheem, SDPO Pahalgam Showkat, Additional Camp Director Nunwan Vinay Kumar, Additional Camp Helipad Vikas Anand, Deputy Camp Director Nunwan DySP Vishal Sharma, Arun Sharma, Dy Commandant CRPF, Farooq I/C Police Post Nunwan Base Camp, CMO Anantnag, Shabir SHO Pahalgam and officers of all line departments.

It is worthwhile to mention here that Amit Sharma, a senior KAS officer, had earlier also led this Nunwan Base Camp as Camp Director seven years back in a very professional and successful manner in 2012. This year, lot more modifications and improvements have happened in Nunwan Base Camp with provision of better facilities from all departments for smooth conduct of Shri Amarnathji Yatra which include installation of about a dozen Langars for provision of food & facilities to the Yatries.

Apart from this, Camp Director Amit Sharma inform that due care has been taken by the Shrine Board for maintaining eco-friendliness by installation of a huge capacity STP with latest technologies for treatment of sewerage and waste of entire Nunwan base camp so that no threat is caused to serene environment of world-famous tourism spot Pahalgam due to it.

During the meeting, Amit laid focus on finishing all pending works of related departments in couple of days and the progress on same should be reported in daily briefing and de-briefing meetings to report at Nunwan Base Camp so that there is smooth conduct and management of Yatra from traditional Pahalgam route which is preferred by most of the pilgrims especially for onwards journey towards Holy Cave.

It is also worthwhile to mention here that in order to ensure better law and order conditions in Base Camps and other camps, executive magistrate powers have been given to the Camp Directors by Law Department this year as per directions of the Government.

It was also informed by Camp Director Amit Sharma that a major mock drill related to Disaster Management is being organised in Pahalgam wherein Brigadier Kuldeep Singh with his NDMA team is leading this campaign and table-top exercises for it are already going on in Pahalgam so that it can help in mitigating all kinds of disasters in future if ever they happen at Southern Axis during the entire Shri Amarnathji Yatra period this year and all the concerned officers have been directed to attend it with full vigour and attention.

Before culmination of the meeting, Camp Director Amit Sharma directed all departments especially telecom, medical, PHE, PDD and transport related services should be well within defined timelines as per instructions of top civil and police administration so that public remains comfortable during entire Shri Amarnathji Yatra 2019 and he further exhorted upon the officers to exhibit total professionalism and use past experience to ensure smooth conduct of Yatra.
