DLSA Baramulla kick-starts 'Ageing with dignity' campaign for senior citizens

BARAMULLA: With an aim to disseminate awareness about various welfare schemes and programmes and to deliver different public services for senior citizens, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Baramulla on Monday kick-started a six-day long campaign ‘Ageing With Dignity' during which different activities at different levels shall be organised with regard to the welfare of senior citizens.

Under the campaign, PLVs of Tehsil Boniyar went door-to-door and covered more than five villages of Tehsil Boniyar to spread awareness in far-flung areas on Senior Citizens Act and to ascertain needs and problems of the senior citizens.

A multiservice camp for senior citizens was also organised on 11 June at Officers Club Uri adjacent to Sub District Hospital Uri. More than 300 senior citizens participated in the programme/camp wherein a thorough Health checkup of the patients was done. Free medicines were also provided besides hearing aids were provided to some patients.

Meanwhile, a Legal Services stall was installed during which 92 applications for Old age pension, widow pension and disability pension were received which were processed by the concerned PLV and submitted to Tehsil Social Welfare Officer present on spot.

Speaking at the event, Secretary DLSA highlighted the significance of such a campaign and highlighted various laws and legislations meant for the welfare of senior citizens. He said that such a section constitutes a vital component of the society and stressed on religious, social and ethical obligation towards them in order to make their lives comfortable.

BMO Uri, Tehsildar Uri, Tehsil Social welfare officer Uri, Legal aid Lawyers and other Lawyers, Team DLSA Baramulla, Team TLSC Uri, Divisional Manager J&K Grameen Bank and PLVs were present on the occasion.
