ICC World Cup: India to take on Australia at Oval

OVAL: In ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, India will take on their arch-rivals Australia at the Oval today in their second match of the tournament.

The two-time champions, led by Virat Kohli in this edition, will be desperate to lay down a marker against the five-time world champions.

India began their World Cup campaign with a comprehensive six-wicket win over South Africa. Australia, on their part, got the better of Afghanistan in their first match and then fought off a stiff challenge from the West Indies to claim full points in their second.

The match will see some mouthwatering matchups, like Virat Kohli facing Mitchell Starc and Yuzvendra Chahal & Jasprit Bumrah challenging David Warner and Steven Smith. Both the teams have clashed 11 times in the ICC's showpiece event with the five-time champions winning on eight occasions.

The two teams had met at The Oval in the 1999 World Cup. Glenn McGrath won the game for the Australians when he removed Sachin Tendulkar on Duck and Rahul Dravid for two. Ajay Jadeja's unbeaten hundred wasn't enough as India fell short of the target by 78 runs. However in 2011, India ended Australia's World Cup-winning streak as they finished without a title for the first time since 1996 after losing to MS Dhoni's men in the quarter-final. Overall, both the teams are neck and neck and fans will have a cracker irrespective of the result.

Last night, England beat Bangladesh by 106 runs in Cardiff. In another match, New Zealand defeated Afghanistan by seven wickets at Taunton.
