6 kg poppy straw seized in Poonch

POONCH: Six kilogram poppy straw has been seized from a passenger vehicle in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, a police official said on Monday.

In continuation to eradicate the menace of drugs among the youth in Poonch which is spreading at an alarming rate among the youths and in order to free the society of such heinous social crimes, a special drive have been launched by Poonch Police against the drug abuse.

Carrying forward the special drive, today on the directions of SSP Poonch Ramesh Angral, a police party led by SHO Surankote laid a Joint surprise naka with Army Romeo force at Poshana on Mughal Road for the checking of vehicles.

During checking an Etios Reg no JK0IJ/ 8490 which was on its way from Kashmir has been signalled to stop for checking.On seeing naka party the driver of the vehicle stopped the Etios at a little distance away from the naka and fled away from the spot in suspicious condition.

On thorough search of the vehicle, recovered 5 Polythene bags filled with Poppy Straw(Bhukki) like substances weighing about 6 Kilograms from one of the empty compartment of the Etios Vehicle, the new modous operandi how to smuggle the contraband. The said vehicle has been seized.

In this regard case FIR NO 109/19 U/S 8/15 NDPS act stands registered against the accused persons at Police Station Surankote & investigation has been geared up to ascertain the source & other persons involved in smuggling of contraband.
