Lecture organized at JU

JAMMU: UGC Human Research Development Centre, University of Jammu organized a Lecture under Benchmark Lecture Series-Capacity Building for Enhancing Quality and Excellence under RUSA-II- an initiative of University.

Dr. Anil Koul, Director CSIR-IMTECH, Chandigarh delivered the benchmark series lecture entitled "Discovery and development of bedaquiline - a new drug for tuberculosis, Role of innovation in global public health.

Dr Koul spoke about the historical perspectives of the development of multidrug resistance TB drug SIRTURO (bedaquiline), the first drug to be approved in last 45 years for treatment of drug-resistant tuberculosis. Dr Anil Koul is the recipient of "Sun Pharma Research Award, "Johnson Medal" and "SwissTB prize".

Dr Kaul in his inspiring presentation traced various milestones which led to the discovery of drug. He emphasised that the research work undertaken by scholars should be outcome based. He highlighted three key aspects which need to be kept in mind while initiating research. He insisted that scholars must try to find innovative solutions to the problems being faced by the common masses.

Prof. Manoj Dhar, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu, in his presidential address, thanked Dr. Anil Koul for delivering lecture at the University and also complimented him for the joint research collaboration under which the students of the University will get exposure to the prestigious CSIR lab.

Prof. Dhar said that in order to provide best facilities to its students and research scholars, University has been striving hard to partner with some of the leading institutions of National and International repute to open new vistas for research so that more can be explored. Prof. Dhar hoped that with the signing of MoU, the ties between CSIR and University will further strengthen and the Research will get major boost.

Prof Dhar said such collaborations will play an important role in building a competent academic and research system in the University. Vice Chancellor called upon the Research scholars, students and faculty members of the University to take maximum benefit of the collaboration so that it gets actually implemented.

Prof Dhar informed that University of Jammu and CSIR-IMTECH will appoint nodal officers to keep the track of the progress/achievements made out of the joint researchcollaboration. He further emphasized on various innovative parameters including THINK DIFFERENT leading to INNOVATIONS.

Earlier, Prof Rahul Gupta Director, HRDC, in his address introduced the guest speaker Dr. Anil Koul and also invited him to deliver. the lecture. Ranjit Kalra,teaching faculty, UGC HRDC delivered the formal vote of thanks.

Dr. Ramen Parkesh, Principal Scientist CSIR-IMTECH was also present on the occasion. The lecture was attended by Heads of various departments, faculty members, research scholars and students of the University.
